R Goodship are able to offer excellent deals on Solar Power to help the environment – and help you reduce your monthly electricity bill.

So how does Solar (Photo-Voltaics) work?
'Solar electricity systems, also known as solar photovoltaic's (PV) capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic cells. These cells don't need direct sunlight to work - they can still generate some electricity on a cloudy day. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to run household appliances and lighting.'

A great benefit in producing electricity is you can also earn from it: any electricity you produce that is not used can be sold back to the national grid. Even if you use the electricity, you can still get paid thanks to the governments ‘Feed In’ scheme which pays you for any electricity you generate.

So how does the feed In Tariff (FIT) work?
April 2010 saw the launch of the UK’s Government backed Feed-in-Tariff (FIT). This gives businesses and homeowners the chance to generate revenue by installing micro-generation technology such as wind turbines and solar photovoltaic’s (PVs). A distinct lack of media publicity has meant many people are missing out.

The premise of the Feed-in-Tariff is simple. If you install certified renewable technology that is fed back into the grid, you will receive a fixed amount for each unit of electricity that you generate - regardless of whether you use it or export back to the grid. In fact if you do export back, the UK Government has pledged a further 5p top-up. This significantly reduces payback periods for installing the technology, making it attractive to a much wider market.

Rates range across technologies on a sliding scale, and are typically between 27p and 41p per unit for PV. Rates can change frequently, however: latest rates can be seen on the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s website at http://www.decc.gov.uk

There are a few options regarding the Feed-In Tariff: you can earn a fixed sum for every kilowatt hour of electricity you produce and use within your home, and earn an additional sum for every kilowatt hour you produce and sell to the national grid.

FACT: If an average three bedroom household installed solar PV panels to generate electricity, the Feed-In Tariffs would provide the following benefits:

- The electricity generated would pay the homeowner £836 a year tax-free

- Remaining electricity costs would be reduced from £500 to £350, saving £150

- Therefore the total benefit would be £986 per year

[This is based on an average use of 4,500kWh of electricity per year and the installation of 2.5kW of solar PV panels.]

Solar Panel installation is quick and cheap and your electricity bill is instantly reduced. The initial outlay on solar power may seem expensive, but think of it as an investment as you will soon realise the financial benefits. Over 10 – 25 years, you will have made your money back and more!!
